Shatter Heart » CC Battle Basics
What is it like? Battles in Crisis Core can best be described as an "Action RPG." Although it can be compared to the likes of Kingdom Hearts or the Tales of series, the battles in Crisis Core are still much different than the two games. If you've played any action RPG, however, you'll quickly get use to the controls and the concept of it.DMW The Digital Mind Wave is a new system unique to Crisis Core and its also something that is completely uncontrolable by the player. What is the Digital Mind Wave? Basically, it is this spinning reel that is set off to the upper-left side of the screen. Three reels, sorta like a slot machine, will continiously spin whenever Zack is in battle. Depending on what it lands on, diffrent effects will take place. For example, sometimes if it is set at the right number, there will be a "No MP" effect. This will allow Zack to use unlimited spells without using any MP.Along with this, there is something else known as the "modulation" phase. When it goes to this phase, the screen will zoom in on the reels and it will start spinning. There are a few things that will happen when it stops. Only one of them will happen, though: - Nothing! - 777! Level up! - Limit Break!! - Summons! Goes to summon modulation screen. May/may not cast summon's skill! Limit breaks are uncontolable, just as everything else on the wheel is. However, the likelyhood of using a limit break is quite high, and these babies do a lot of physical damage to the opponent! Also, if you've defeated/gotten summons, there is a chance the modulation will turn to the summons screen. It'll spin just like the normal modulation screen and may/may not use the summon's skill. [For instance, if it lands on Ifrit correctly, it'll use his "Hell Fire" skill.] Nifty, huh? Seems complicated, but there's nothing to it. Anyway, nothing the player has to do. How to level! The ingame tutorial states that leveling is random - whenever you hit a 777 on the wheel it will level up. But in reality, you do gain EXP in this game, it is just invisible and unknown to the player how much Zack has gained. So, there is no need to worry about this. Eventually, the DMV WILL hit 777, and Zack will level. To increase the likelyhood of this, make sure to do the little side missions! Battles? How to fight! Battles are easy as pie. They will start automatically. A message will pop up with a female's voice in the background and battle mode will begin. Use the directional buttons or the analog stick to move Zack around. You'll automatically target the nearest foe. Now, hit the X button to slash an enemy! You can also use the R1/L1 button to scroll amoung the various skills/commands. You'll be able to use Attack, Materias, and items. To use materias, you'll need to set them outside of battles, in the main menu screen. Zack gains gil during battles. Make sure to use it to buy new potions and such. |
