[Angeal appears, his one white wing let out behind him] Angeal: You tarnish the SOLDIER name! Zack: Angeal! [It shows Zack's hand pounding on a tank, from the inside] Zack: Wait! [An FMV plays, it shows Zack, and a white feather falling to the water that Zack is standing in] Zack: Those wings... I want them, too. [It goes back to a normal cutscene. It shows a man, in a labcoat, walking toward the tank Zack was in, but then it shows that Zack had burst out of the tank and was laying on the ground. The man gets closer, but Zack begins to stand up, flowing a bright green color. He pushes the man back and goes to the tank that was beside his, which holds none other than Cloud inside. Zack trains the green fluid out of the tank. He then lets Cloud out. Cloud just falls, lifeless and limp, into Zack's arms] Zack: Cloud... [If you examine a file on the table...] Document 1: Analysis of Procedural Failure Failure Case #1: SOLDIER 1st Class Summary: Desired effect did not occur. Strong tolerance to Jenova cells due to SOLDIER conditioning assessed as cause. Failed Case #2: Shinra Infantryman Summary: Weak tolerance to Jenova cells led to toxicosis. Lack of response to outside stimuli suggests severe system damage. Recovery highly unlikely. [Zack grabs Cloud and heads outside the room] Zack: Wait here a minute. [He puts Cloud down on the ground ] I'm gonna go clear the way. [They are in the Shinra mansion basement] [Zack goes off and kills all the monsters along the path, then goes back and gets Cloud. It then goes to a scene of Zack standing by Cloud, whom he put onto a bed] Zack: Wait a minute. I'm gonna go clear the way. [Zack goes up ahead, kills the monsters, then leads Cloud outside, where he once again sets Cloud down] Zack: I'm gonna go clear the area up ahead. Wait here for a bit. [Zack takes Cloud back into Nibelheim, then puts him on the ground in front of the inn] Zack: What's going on...? I saw this town reduced to ashes, but it's back to the way it was before. [Some members of Shinra amush Zack] Infantryman: The professor's test samples are escaping! Zack: It'll take more than your average grunt to take me down! [Some Infantryman sneak up from the opposite direction and begin to pick up Cloud] Zack: Cloud!? [Zack looks around and sees the Infantrymen everywhere] This is bad! I'd better take care of them quickly. I'm not gonna get caught again! [After Zack defeats them on, he begins to go weak, getting down on one knee] Zack: Whoa...what's wrong with me today? This can't be right...How could I be having trouble against these guys? [Zack walks over to Cloud.] Zack: I'll have to return to the mansion to regroup. [Zack takes Cloud back to the Shinra mansion] Zack: It's daytime, and we're still a little weak...Maybe we should rest until dark? [Inside] Cloud: Ngh... Zack: Cloud... Could this be mako addiction...? [Zack flops back onto the floor] Zack: Angeal...Am I just not capable of saving anyone? All right! I'm gonna go find some clothes for you. Those mako-soaked clothes will definitely not help you on your road to recovery. Wait for me here. I'll be right back. [Right outside there is a shelf with a document] Document 3 Researcher's Diary #2 The town was apparently set on fire intentionally. No one has filled me in on the details, but it seems the other researchers who came to the town with Professor Hojo all perished in the fire. That's why I was sent here. Now, only Professor Hojo and I will be working on the project. What a thrill it is to actually witness one of Professor Hojo's expirements firsthand! [On another shelf somewhere in the mansion on the opposite end] Document 4 Researcher's Diary #3 The process of rebuilding the incinerated town has begun. The construction is somehow being overseen by the Turks. I would have thought that City Planning would be in charge of that, but...? Some ponytailed Turk has been coming around asking to speak to Professor Hojo, but he is routinely turned away. He refuses to say what he wants to see him about. Leave the professor be, Turk! He has important work to do! [in the same room] Document 5 Researcher's Diary #4 We've finally released samples into town. They walk all around town, but do not seem to want to leave it. Furthermore, two of them are still in their pods. Again, no explination is provided to me. Could the procedure have failed? No, impossible! Professor Hojo's expirements don't fail! [In anothe room] Document 6 Researcher's Diary #5 Shocking news! Professor Hojo is returning to the head office tomorrow! They say I'm the overall supervisor of the project now, but who am I supervising? I have no staff! Nobody has given me a timeline for when I get to go back, either. Come on, let me go home! [In a large room, behind the a stairs] Document 7 Researcher's Diary #6 Every day I send reports regarding the status of the samples, but the samples never show signs of change, so there is nothing to report. The only joy I recieve is in caring for the two failed cases--now they understand me. I often tell them my troubles--of course they don't reply, but...You know, lately I've been thinking, caring for these samples isn't so bad...I think I'll just spend the rest of my days here! [Zack heads back to Cloud] Zack: Hey, I found something for you. Change into this. It may not smell very good, but we can't be too picky right now. [Cloud gets changed into the 1st Class SOLDIER uniform - well, Zack puts it on him :P] Zack: Looks good on you. [Zack pulls out a piece of paper] Zack: They're tiny, but you have lots, right? [flashback] Aerith: That's right, wanna hear? Zack: How many you got? Aerith: Hmm...twenty...three? Zack: Write them down, so I don't forget. Aerith's Voice [Not Flashback]: I have 23 tiny wishes. But you probably won't remember them all, so I put them all together into one: I'd like to spend more time with you. [/End of flashback] Zack: Hey, Cloud. I...I have to go to Midgar. You wanna come with me? [At night, Zack is shown carrying Cloud across Nibelheim, but of course, some infantrymen attack him] Zack: [Talking to Cloud] Stay with me! [They exit the town finally, where they walk down long paths] Damn it! There's no end to this! [Zack puts Cloud down against a tree] Wait here a minute. I'm gonna take a look around. [Zack runs around and kills some machines then ends up at a beach] Zack: Huh...Where do I go from here? Can't do much when I got Cloud to worry about... Angeal...what should I do? [Cissnei sneaks up behind him] Zack: Hey, Cissnei. Been a while. Cissnei: Zack... The fugitive sample...is it you? Zack: It would appear so. Cissnei: What did they do to you in that place? Zack: Well...this and that... So, Cissnei, you're here to take us back, right? Please, just walk away! I thought we could outrun the army, but the Turks are a different story. Cissnei: Zack, I'm sorry... This is my job. If you want to escape, you have to... [Cissnei throws her weapon at Zack but he easily deflects it] Zack: Stay back. Next time...I'll really have to... [Zack runs off and goes back to Cloud] Zack: The Turks are here, too. It's too dangerous to move now. We'll rest here until morning. Then we'll leave at dawn. Eh, we'll be all right. [Zack turns around] Zack: Cissnei... Cissnei: Wait... He...he's the other sample they collected at Nibelheim. Zack: Why did you come here!? I told you to go away. Cissnei: He doesn't look well, Zack. Is he all right? Zack: Mako addiction. Severe case. Cissnei: The expirements, isn't it? Zack: Yeah... [Cissnei pulls out her phone] Zack: Hey! Cissnei: Tseng, I've lost the target. [She puts away phone] That's how it is... so get away safely. Zack: Cissnei...thank you. Cissnei: Here's a present. [she gives him keys] If you think you can trust me, then use it. [Cissnei walks off. It then goes to a scene of Zack riding on some motorcycle with Cloud in the side car] Zack: Shinra makes good stuff! [Zack looks up and sees some Genesis copies] Not again! [Zack gets off the bike and goes towards the copies, but Genesis appears from the sky, kicks Zack, and the copies capture Zack] Zack: Get off me! Ow, my hair! Stop pulling! Genesis: When the war of the beasts brings about the world's end The goddess descends from the sky Wings of light and dark spread afar She guides us to bliss, her gift everlasting [It shows one of the copies with Zack's hair in their hand] Zack: That's my hair! Genesis: You were a test subject for Hojo's new expirement. A modified version of Jenova's power runs through you. Zack: What? Seriously? [one of the copies eats the hair] Zack: No way...he just ate my hair! Genesis: Your cells with be my gift of the goddess...The degradation will cease. [Zack gets free] Zack: You...are twisted. Genesis: The monster has been harvested, and can be discarded. Zack: You're the monster! Genesis: Legend shall speak Of sacrifice at world's end The wind sails over the water's surface Quietly, but surely [Genesis and a couple copies walk off but one of the copies, the one that ate Zack's hair, stayed behind and turned into a monster. Thus, Zack has to battle it. Of course, he defeats it] Zack: Angeal...what do I do? [He gets on the bike] Tell me. [They two of them drive off] Zack: Huh...? [gets off the bike] Huh!? Cloud, this is my hometown! This is Gongaga! [Near the town, at the reactor] Zack: No, I can't go to my house...I'd probably walk right into an ambush. Wait here a minute. I'm just worried about my parents. I wonder if Mom's all right...It's risky, but should I go back to town? [Zack goes into town] Cissnei: Behind you. So predictable... Couldn't you guess your hometown would be the first place we'd look? Zack: Humph... Cissnei: Here to see your parents? Zack: Yeah, so? What's wrong with that? Cissne: I see... Zack: Yeah, well... I guess you're right. It was pretty careless. We'll be going... Cissnei: Be careful. Security is very tight right now. Apparently...another target is in the area. Zack: Who? Cissnei: Angeal. Zack: I see... Cissnei: "I see"? He died by your hand. You're not surprised? Zack: I think he may have helped us escape Shinra Manor. Cissnei: Interesting. The sighting reports were true. Zack: But why would he come to a place like Gongaga? Cissnei: He came here to see you. What other reason could there be? Zack: Run away if you can, Angeal! The Turks are watching! Cissne: I'll give you 10 minutes. After that... I return to the Turks. Zack: Return? Cissnei: Right now, I'm not in the mood... I can't bring bad news to your parents. Zack: My mom...how is she? Cissnei: She's worried. She thinks after all this, you won't be able to find a wife. Zack: What's up with that? Cissnei: They're nice people, and they're doing fine. Zack: Good. That's all I need to know. Cissnei: Yeah. Zack: How's your folks? Cissnei: I was raised inside Shinra. Zack: Hey, Cissnei... Would you mind...keeping my folks company for a while? Cissnei: All right. No problem. Zack: They'll probably ask you to join the family. Cissnei: Already happened. Zack: What did you say? Cissnei! Cissnei: Not my real name. Zack: Huh? Cissnei: You have five minutes left. [walks off] Zack: [Looks up] Angeal? Angeal! It is you! [Angeal flies off] Zack: Hey, wait! Is it really Angeal...? Only one way to know for sure. [Zack follows Angeal to the top of a hill, but ends up getting into fights with weird copies] Voice: His cells are completely useless! [Hollander appears with Genesis] Hollander: You are a former member of SOLDIER. Your cellular structure has already mutated. Zack: Hollander!? You did it... to yourself? Hollander: Yes, after nearly being killed by Genesis. It was really all I could do to survive. I merely borrowed some cells from Genesis... Zack: You know, you're...degrading. Hollander: Indeed, but there is still some hope... Genesis: The gift of the goddess...A pure S cell sample will sto pthe degradation process. Zack: Pure? Genesis: There are...two of you, on the run. One is a former SOLDIER operative. The other, an infantryman. Hollander: That infantryman carries within his body the last pure S-cells in the world! Zack: Hey! Genesis: Do you know the verse in Act IV that leads in to the final act? Zack: Of course not. Genesis: Legend shall speak Of sacrifice at world's end The wind sails over the water's surface Quietly, but surely Zack: Enough about sacrifices and endings! I don't want to hear it! Genesis: You don't understand the beauty of these words. How tragic... I'm not surprised. Even I didn't understand all of it. The greatest mystery behind the gift of the goddess... "The water's surface." And the answer I have arrived at, is the lifestream. Zack: What? Genesis: There are various theories regarding the missing final act. However, only my theory is correct. And I will prove it to you! Zack: No, that won't be neccessary! [Zack goes after Genesis but Genesis flies off] Genesis: You will understand. [Zack runs back to the old Gongaga Mako Reactor, where he kills Hollander and meets Angeal] Angeal: It's been a long time, Zack... Zack: So what happened? That thing wasn't so tough! Angeal: I can't fight like a 1st. I'm just an Angeal copy. Zack: Copy? Angeal: It's Lazard. [So the Angeal that Zack's been talking to really is Lazard] Zack: So you're the one who helped Hollander out of Junon? Why would you do such a thing? Lazard: To exact my revenge, I needed Hollander. Zack: You really chose the wrong friends, didn't you? Lazard: I agree. I never dreamed I'd be turned into an Angeal copy. Zack: Well, just be happy you're linked to Project G. Lazard: It's a strange feeling. Zack: Hm? Lazard: The lust for vengeance that had so consumed my life is all but gone now. In it's place... is a desire to help you, a desire to save Genesis... No, it's bigger than that. I...I want to save the world. Zack: Nothing strange about that. Angeal lives inside you. Lazard: Genesis is trying to obtain the "gift of the goddess," but what is it, exactly? No, whatever it is, he must be stopped. Zack: I just don't understand what he's talking about at all. What should I do? Lazard: Angeal may show us the way...perhaps. Zack: Maybe...I hope so, Director. Lazard: Heh, "Director"... So, Zack, what is your dream? Zack: Huh? Oh, let's see... To become a hero! Lazard: Humph, unattainable dreams are the best kind. Lazard: Oh, come on! Lend me a hand! You and Angeal both!. If we pull this off, we'll all be heroes! At the very least, I'd feel like one! Lazard: So, Zack, where is Genesis? Zack: Oh! [Holds out an dumbapple] Lazard: I see... [End of Chapter] |
