[flashback] Angeal's Mom: That sword represents our family's honor. Angeal: You're a little more important than my sword. ...But just a little. [/flashback] Zack: Where did you go...? [phone rings] Zack here. Sephiroth on phone: It's been a while, Zack. Zack: Sephiroth? Sephiroth: Come to Lazard's room. Zack: Alright. [SOLDIER director's office] Lazard: Congratulations. As of this moment, you're promoted to SOLDIER 1st Class. Zack: Huh. I thought I'd be happier. Lazard: Understandable. Too much happened too fast. Zack, I'm afraid I need your assistance again. Zack: [looks at sephiroth] Are you pushing another assignment on me? Sephiroth: My apologies. Zack: Whatever. Lazard: I'll fill you in on the assignment, but before that... Go to the briefing room and change into a SOLDIER 1st class uniform. [after he changes] Lazard: The company has decided to eliminate Genesis and his cohorts. This includes Angeal as well. Zack: And you want me to do it? Lazard: No, the Shinra Army will handle it. Zack: What about me? Lazard: They don't trust you. Sephiroth: They believe your emotions will hamper your judgement. Zack: Well, of course! Sephiroth: That's why I'm going, too. Zack: To kill them? [A small pause of silence if followed by the security alarms going off] Sephiroth: An intruder! Lazard: Where? Sephiroth: Close. Lazard: Sephiroth, the president. Zack, entrance. Zack: Yeah, you got it. [Zack runs to the entrance of the Shinra building, it shows lots of machine attacking] Zack: What are Shinra weapons attacking the Shinra building? Is Genesis responsible for this? [Zack kills lots of robots and copies] Zack: Sephiroth! These are Genesis copies. Sephiroth: This must be Hollonder's doing. Zack: Who's that? Sephiroth: A Shinra scientist who vanished after lifting the copy technology. Zack: Are you saying that this Hollander and Genesis are working together? Sephiroth: Perhaps. Zack: What is it that they're after...? Sephiroth: Hollander lost his bid for the leadership of the Science Department. He has borne a grudge against Shinra ever since. Revenge is most likely his objective. Zack: That's just petty. Are you telling me that Genesis is supporting these idiotic causes? Sephiroth: I would prefer not to believe it, but... zack: Then don't believe it. Sephiroth: Very well, I won't. Now, Zack. Genesis copies have been sighted in Sector 8 as well. Let's go. [sector 8, lots of dudes roaming about] Zack: Whoa, this is some serious trouble! Sephiroth: We should split up. Zack: Understood! [Zack runs into the town square] Zack: Hold on, I'm a-comin'! [A Turk is there - Reno - stops Zack] Reno: Sector 8 is Turks jurisdicion, Slick. Zack: You've gotta be kidding me! Tseng, do something! Tseng: There's no need for concern. Zack: huh? [sees a woman had slaughtered the copies] okay... Tseng: The other areas? Reno: Midgar's just crawling with nasties. Rude: SOLDIER is having difficulties. Tseng: Reno, Rude. Reno: Just say the word, Tseng: Go. Rude: Yes, sir. [the two run off] Zack: So now we're outsourcing to the Turks? ???: SOLDIER's being stingy. Zack: There's a manpower shortage--huh? [turns around] You're a Turk, too? ???: I'm Cissnei. Zack: I'm Zack, pleasure to meet ya. Tseng: Zack, aren't you on assignment? Zack: Same objective. Need some help here? Tseng: I appreciate the offer. Cissnei: Oh, how generous! Well, Tseng, Zack, I gotta go. [she runs off] [Zack runs after Cissnei and sees her battling a Genesis copy. He helps] Cissnei: When I was a kid, I always wanted to have wings. You know, like an angel. Zack: If people had wings, they'd be monsters. Cissnei: Wings symbolize freedom for those who have none. They don't symbolize monsters. SOLDIER 1st Class, indeed. A very impressive show of force. Zack: Unlike the Turks, we folks at SOLDIER are paid to fight. Cissnei: Take this. A token of appreciation for helping me out back there. Well, I'm off to my next job. Didn't you have another assignment, too? Zack: Assignment... Yeah, I do... Cissnei: I'm sure we'll see each other again. [runs off] [Zack's phone rings] Sephiroth: Once Sector 8 is clear, come to Mako Reactor 5. Zack: Did you find something out? Sephiroth: Angeal has been sighted. Zack: So, it's search and destroy? Sephiroth: The army is mobilizing, but there's still time. You and I will find them before they do, and... Zack: And WHAT? Sephiroth: ...fail to eliminate them. Zack: For real? Sephiroth: Yes, for real. Zack: Excellent! Probably! [down in the mako reactor, Zack meets with some monsters. He defeats it and afterwards, notices that the monster has Angeal's face on it. Sephiroth is also there.] Zack: Is that Angeal's face...? Sephiroth: It appears Genesis isn't the only one who can be copied. The company training room... Zack: Hm? Sephiroth: We used to sneak in there for fun, when the 2nds were out... Genesis, Angeal, and I. Zack: You guys were pretty tight. Sephiroth: Hmph. I wonder. [a beautiful FMV scene begins] Genesis: Infinite in mystery is the gift of the goddess We seek it thus, and take to the sky Ripples form on the water's surface The wandering soul knows no rest Sephiroth: "LOVELESS" Act I. Genesis: You remembered. Sephiroth: How can I not when you've beaten it into my head? [Genesis/Sephiroth get ready to fight] Angeal: Don't take Sephiroth lightly. Genesis: Humph, noted. [Sephiroth, Genesis, and Angeal beging a fight. Eventually, Sephiroth and Angeal's swords meet.] Sephiroth: Ha! Is that the best you can do? Angeal: all hail Sephiroth, eh? Genesis: Angeal, stay back. I'll take Sephiroth alone. Angeal: Genesis... Genesis: The world needs a new hero. Sephiroth: Humph, come and try. Genesis: so smug... but for how long? [the two fight alone. But soon they get a bit out of hand... when Genesis begins to cast a spell. Angeal stops him. ] Angeal: stop! You'll destroy us all [Genesis starts casting in Angeal's face] Genesis: That's no way to talk to a hero! [Genesis knocks Angeal flying way out in the distance with his spell and Sephiroth and Genesis continue their insane fight. The "one-winged angeal toon plays in the background. Eventually, Angeal steps in again] Angeal Enough! He stops both of their swords with his buster sword] Sephiroth: Angeal... Genesis: Out of my way! [Genesis casts a spell but it backfires and he injures himsself] Angeal: Genesis! [the room goes back to normal from their training] Genesis: Just a scrape... I'll be fine, don't worry. Even if the morrow is barren of promises, Nothing shall forestall my return [the fmv ends] Zack: So, was everything alright? Sephiroth: Yes, as far as Genesis was concerened. But, as for Angeal... Zack: Angeal? What happened? Sephiroth: Later, I recieved one of his famous lectures. Zack: About what? Sephiroth: Always the same. Discipline, dreams, honor, et cetera... Zack: Ah, one of those, huh? Sephiroth: So it's true... they're in a league with Hollander. Zack: How could this happen? Angeal... What is it you're up to? I have to look for clues.. [the two of them make it through the reactor to some room, where they see various strange things, like copies in testtubes] Sephiroth: [Looking at a tube] A wretched sight... [Zack looks around at Hollander's documents] Project G - Summary Objective: Implant the cells of an Ancient into a human fetus to imbue said fetus with the Ancient's abilities. Zack: ugh... Sephiroth: It was Hollander's expirement. The result was a normal child. Which meant he failed. However... Report on the SOLDIER Degration Phenomenon The heightened abilities of SOLDIER members are maintained by a delicate balance of various genetic factors. A change in this balance could only be caused by a "leak" of genetic information, but this is not possible under normal circumstances. This phenomenon is unique to the SOLDIER type G. Zack: I'm feeling woozy... Sephiroth: It was before Genesis deserted. The wound was superficial. But for some reason, Genesis wasn't healing. The man who treated him was... Hollander. Angeal: Professor Hollander, how is Genesis? Hollander: The problem is the mako energy that seeped in through the wound... Angeal: Is it treatable? Hollander: First, he'll need a transfusion. [Sephiroth stands up] You aren't viable. [Angeal is chosen] Sephiroth: Why couldn't I be the donor? A SOLDIER Type G... The Ancients Project - Outline It is now an undisputed fact that the life form excavated from the Earth is indeed of the ancient race spoken of in legend. Furthermore, history records that these "Ancients" channeled the power of this planet to tear the earth asunder. Using the cells of the unearthed Ancient, we have begun research on creating and mass-producing a race with comparable abilities. The primary objective of this research is to significantly reduce mako excavation costs. Sephiroth: Project G gave birth to the man we know as Genesis. Zack: Project G... Sephiroth: "Project Genesis." Contrary to this report, Genesis showed clearn signs of change. Zack: Degrading? Sephiroth: Not only that. Zack: Copies...? Sephiroth: Abominations... [hollander walks in] Hollander: S-Sephiroth!? Sephiroth: Hollander... I thought I'd find you here. Hollander: The degradation process... only I can stop it. [Genesis flies down] Sephiroth: Genesis. Genesis: You won't take Hollander. Sephiroth: Zack! Go after Hollander! [zack runs off after Hollander] Genesis: There is no hate, only joy for you are beloved by the goddess Hero of the dawn, Healer of worlds Sephiroth: "LOVELESS" again? You never change. Genesis: Three friends go into battle. One is captured, one flies away, the one that is left becomes a hero. Sephiroth: A common story. Genesis: If we were to enact it, would I be the one to play the hero, or would you? Sephiroth: It's all yours. Genesis: Indeed. After all, your glory should have been mine. Sephiroth: How petty. Genesis: In hindsight, perhaps. Now, what I want most... is the "gift of the goddess." [after a lot of work, Zack catches up to the scientist] Zack: Hollander, do you understand what you're doing? [angeal appears] Zack: Working for Hollander now? What is it you're after? Angeal: World domination. Zack: That's not even funny, man. Angeal: How about... revenge? Zack: For what? Angeal! [Angeal reveals one white wing] Zack: Whoa... Angeal: I've become...a monster. A monster's objective is usually world domination or revenge. Zack: You're wrong. Those aren't the wings of a monster. Angeal: Well then, what are they? Zack: Angel's wings. Angeal: I see. Then what should an angel fight for, Zack? What do angels dream of? Zack: Angeal... Angeal: Angeals dream of one thing... Zack: Please, tell me. Angeal: To be human. [Angeal rushes towards Zack and punches him in the stomach.] Angeal: Defend yourself! [Zack shakes head and Angeal sends a wave at him, causing Zack to fall down through some vents] Zack: Arghhhh! [end of chapter] |
