Zack: Come on, pick up! Luxiere: Who are you trying to call? Zack: Sephiroth. I haven't been able to reach him in ages. Luxiere: Haven't you heard? Mr. Sephiroth has shut himself iside the data room and hasn't come out. Handsets are prohibited in the data room, so there's not much you can do. Zack: Data room? Luxiere: He is appearently researching the history of the Shinra Science Department. Zack: Oh... [phone rings] Aerith, what's up? Aerith: Um, I wanted to ask... When will you make it for me? Zack: Make what...Oh! Aerith: The flower wagon, did you forget? Zack: No, of course I didn't forget! Hold on, I'll be right there. [Zack goes to the slums and meets Angeal] Zack: Angeal!? Where have you been? Angeal: Apologies. But, I am a busy man. Zack: Yeah, whatever... I haven't been able to contact Sephiroth, either. Angeal: Has something happened? Zack: Not really. He's just been holed up in the data room, reading old reports and such. Angeal: I see... Zack: Hey! Now where are you off to? I just don't know with you, these days. Angeal: Genesis and Hollander are in Modeoheim. Zack: You came to tell me that? Are you actually... working? Angeal: I'm a SOLDIER at heart, I suppose. I've informed Lazard as well. They'll come pick you up soon. [Zack goes near the church and Tseng finds him] Tseng: Zack, I need you in Modeoheim. Zack: I know, just give me a minute. Tseng: Aerith isn't there. Problem? Zack: And how is it you know Aerith? Tseng: It's complicated. Zack: Really... Tseng: Did she tell you anything? Zack: Not a thing... Tseng: Then I won't either. [helicoptor flies down to pick him up] Zack: Hmm... Well, whatever, I guess. Whaaatever... [they go off but they crash in some snowy mountain] Zack: Ugh...well, that's a fine how-do-you-do! Tseng! Hey, guys! Tseng: No signal out there. Zack: Well, at least we're all in one piece. We'll be all right. Tseng: Thankfully, we have someone used to this kind of terrain. Zack: Yeah, yeah, I'm the country boy... Tseng: Alright, then. We would have reached Modecheim by now if we hadn't crashed. So we're going to need to make up for lost time. Zack: All right, follow me, then! [they walk a ways] Zack: Yo! Don't fall too far behind! At least someone's keeping up! ???: Well, I'm a country boy, too. Zack: From where? ???: Nibelheim. How about you? Zack: Me? Gongaga. Hey, what's so funny about that! You know Gongaga? ???: No, but it's such a backwater name. Zack: Ditto Nibelheim! ???: Like you've been there. Zack: I haven't, but there's a reactor there, right? A mako reactor outside Midgar usually means... ??? & Zack: ...nothing else out there. Zack: Good news, Tseng! Me and... Cloud: [takes off helmet] Cloud. Zack: Me and Cloud here are both backwater experts. Oh yeah! Tseng: Good. Carry on then. [they walk some more] Zack: Phew... Let's wait a bit. Cloud: Hey, Zack, uh... Zack: Hm? Cloud: Um... What's it like to be SOLDIER? Zack: I don't quite get the question. Cloud: Um... Zack: Well, once you join, you'll know what it's like. Cloud: If I can join, that is... Zack: Don't sweat it. If I can do it, you can, too. Cloud, look. [shows buildings] Tseng: That's a mako excavation test site. Zack: I'll go check it out. Tseng: Our primary objective is to investigate Modeoheim. We can't afford to lose people here. At the same time, we can't ignore the activities of the Genesis Army. Therefore... Zack: Infiltrate while avoiding combat, right? Tseng: Exactly. There's an entrance at the back of the warehouse. Once you're inside the facility, you can do as you like. Zack: You got it. I'll prove that SOLDIEr isn't all about muscle and brawn. You watch carefully, too, Cloud. Cloud: Uh-huh. Tseng: In this blizzard, you're going to have to watch your body temperature. If you stand still for too long, your temperature will decrease rapidly. To get your body temperature back up, do your usual thing. Zack: My usual thing, huh? Yeah, I get it! [Zack goes through the fortress and finda Hollander and Genesis] Hollander: What's the meaning of this? You need me, Genesis, remember that. [Genesis is holding sword to Hollander] Hollander: If you get rid of me, who's going to stop degradation? Genesis: The Jenova cells. Cloud: Stop. [keeps Hollander from getting away] Zack: Cloud! Good work! Hollander: But...nobody knows where the Jenova cells are being kept! Not even Hojo knows! You'll never find it! Genesis: Then I shall willingly accept my fate. But, I'll take the world with me! [lots of sword fighting] Zack: Cloud, go! [Cloud runs somewhere while Genesis and Zack keep fighting, a big battle goes on, and zack defeats genesis] Genesis: Dreams of the morrow hath the shattered soul Pride is lost Wings stripped away, the end is nigh Such is... the fate of a monster. Zack: We're not monsters, you hear me? We're SOLDIER! Where's your honor? Genesis: Even if the morrow is barren of promise Nothing shall forestall my return If this world seeks my destruction... it goes with me. [falls down/flies away] Zack: Genesis... [Zack runs after everyone else and ends up in a bath house where he finds cloud laying on the floor] Cloud: Ngh.. Zack: Cloud! Talk to me! Cloud: We're all right... [spots Tseng] Zack: Tseng!? Tseng! Tseng: Down that way... You have to catch Hollander. Angeal...is waiting for you. [Zack goes into the direction he was directed to go and eventually meets with Angeal] Angeal: It should have been me... I should have dealt with Genesis. Zack: Yeah...then why did you send me? Angeal: To prepare you... for your next fight. Zack: Have you lost it? [Angeal attacks Zack] Zack: Stop it! Angeal: Someone's waiting for you, no? Zack: Angeal...don't do this... Hollander: [comes out] Very good, Angeal! It is time to extract vengeance for our family's suffering! Zack: Family? Angeal: No! My father is dead! Hollander: Fine, then do it for your mother. Angeal: My mother's shame made her take her own life. Hollander: Shame? How terribly misguided! She should have been proud... Proud that she was the namesake for our expirement. "Project G," Or should I say, "Project Gillian." [Angeal grabs Hollander] Angeal: Don't say her name. Hollander: Gillian, the woman implanted with Jenova cells. Genesis, who had her genes mapped onto him during the fetal stage. Yes, Genesis was a failure, I'll admit it. But you, Angeal... You were actually bred inside Gillian's body. You..you are perfection. Angeal: Zack, I am perfect. A perfect... monster. My cells can absorb genetic trains, and pass them along to others. Hollander: A two-way conduit... Jenova's power has passed on to you completely. Angeal: Zack, do you remember what I said? About our enemy being all that creates suffering? Zack: Yeah...but you're not one of them. Angeal: But I created my own suffering. Zack, let me show you. Hollander: Stop it! You don't know what you're doing! [lots of monsters fall out] Hollander: Damn! At least one sample! [rushes at Angeal] Zack: Angeal! [the monsters transform angeal into a strange-looking monster. He then shoves a sword forward and scratches Zack's face] Zack: Angeal, what happened to honor!? [A battle begins. Of course, Zack defeats him, and Angeal lays on the floor, in his normal body, dying] Angeal: Zack, you have my thanks. This... is for you. [gives Zack the buster sword] Protect your honor, always... Angeal's Voice: Embrace your dreams. If you want to be a hero you need to have dreams ... and honor. [it begins to rain] [Goes into a scene of Aerith] Aerith: Hey, Zack? The sky is closer in the city above, right? Kinda scary, but the flowers might like it...maybe. [Shows Zack sitting in the church crying. Aerith walks up behind him and gives him a hug] [then goes to a scene og Zack sitting inside the Shinra building with the Buster Sword. It seems he grew out his hair as well. He walks off, with the Buster Sword on his back.] [Zack walks pass some men in uniforms, one of them, obviously Cloud, who he pats on the shoulder] Zack: So you want to be in SOLDIER? Hang in there. So, is everybody here now? Men: Sir! Zack: You're all rookies, right? Men: Sir! Yes sir! Zack: One piece of advice...no, an order. Embrace your dreams. And, whatever happens, protect your SOLDIER honor. Got it? Men: Sir! Zack: We're all coming back here alive, you hear me? Let's go. [End of chapter] |
