Sephiroth: So, how does it feel? To be home after all this time? I have no hometown. I wouldn't know. Zack: Uh...what about family? Sephiroth: My mother's name is Jenova. She dies shortly after I was born. My father... [laughs] Why am I talking about this? Come on. Let's go. [Everyone but Zack walks into town] Zack: Sephiroth's mother's name is Jenova? Huh... [Inside town] Tifa: Are you one of the SOLDIER people who've come to investigate? Zack: Yeah, my name is Zack, and I'm with SOLDIER. 1st Class, mind you, 1st Class! Tifa: Huh. Zack: What do you mean, "Huh"? Tifa: Are there a lot of SOLDIER 1st Classes? Zack: Nope, we're a small, elite group. Tifa: They only sent two? Zack: Yeah, me and Sephiroth. Tifa: Uh-huh... [She hesitates then runs off] Zack: Weird girl... [By the Inn] Sephiroth: We depart for the reactor at dawn. Make sure to get plenty of sleep. Only one of you needs to keep watch. Make sure you get some rest as well. Ah, that's right... You have permission to go visit family and friends, if you wish. Zack: Nibelheim, huh... [Zack talks to Cloud] Zack: Why are you wearing that mask? Cloud: It's...personal. Zack: Weirdo. [Upstairs inside the inn] Zack: What are you looking at? Sephiroth: The landscape... I could swear I've seen it before. [the next day, in front of a large gate at the Shinra Mansion] Zack: Tifa! You're our guide? Tifa: At your service! Man: [Holds up camera] Okay... say cheese! [Takes picture] Tifa: Nobody is a better guide than me in this town. [Shows another picture] Zack: But it's too dangerous! We can't get you involved in something like this! [shows a picture of Cloud and a big monster] Zack: Stay back, it's just knocked out. It could wake up and start chowing on you. Sephiroth: She'll be fine, if you protect her. [Shows the reactor] Zack: Use brings about wear, tear, and rust. So usually, I just hit with the blunt side. [At the reactor] Tifa: I want to go inside and look, too! Sephiroth: This is a top-secret facility. Non-Shinra personnel are not permitted inside. Tifa: But...! Sephiroth: [Looks at a Cloud] Keep the young lady safe. [Zack and Sephiroth walk in and Cloud prevents Tifa from joining them] [When the two get inside, they look around, and Zack notices a sealed-off room labeled "JENOVA"] Zack: JENOVA...interesting. The door is...sealed, of course. [Zack pauses to walk away but then turns back around] Jenova? [Sephiroth walks infront of some tank] Sephiroth: This is the cause of the malfunction. This section is broken. Zack, go seal the valve. Why did it break? [Zack looks into one of the tanks and sees what appears to be a monster-like creature] Zack: What is that...? Sephiroth: You average SOLDIER members are mako-infused humans. You're enhanced, but still human. But then, what are those things? Their mako energy levels are exponentially higher than yours. Zack: Are they...monsters? Sephiroth: Yes. The Shinra scientist Hojo was the one who created them. Abominations spawned by mako energy...That's what monsters are. Zack: You said "average" member. What about you? [Sephiroth grabs his head suddenly and turns around] Zack: Hey, Sephiroth! Sephiroth: Could it be...that I...? ...was created the same way? Am I the same as these monsters? I knew, ever since I was a child... I was ot like the others. I knew mine was a special existance. But this...This was not what I meant. Am I...a human being? Genesis: No such luck. You are a monster. Sephiroth... You were the greatest monster created by the Jenova Project. Zack: Genesis...So you are alive! Genesis: I suppose I am, if you can call this living. Sephiroth: What is the Jenova Project? Genesis: The Jenova Project... was the term used for all experiments... relating to the use of Jenova's cells. Sephiroth: My mother's...cells? Genesis: Poor little Sephiroth... You've never actually met your mother. You've only been told her name, no? I don't know what images you've conjured up in your head, but... Zack: Genesis, no! Genesis: Jenova... was excavated from a 2000-year-old rock layer. She's a monster. Sephiroth...I need your help. My body is continuing to degrade. SOLDIER 1st Class Sephiroth! Jenova Project G gave birth to Angeal... and monsters like myself. Jenova Project S... Zack: S...? Genesis: ...used the remains of countless failed experiments to create a perfect monster. Sephiroth: What do you want of me? Genesis: Your traits cannot be copied unto others. You're genes can't be diffused. Therefore, your body cannot degrade. Share your cells with me. My friend, your desire is the bringer of life, the gift of the goddess [Genesis holds out an apple] Sephiroth: Whether your words are lies created to deceive me... or the truth, that I have sought all my life... it makes no difference. [Knocks the apple out of Genesis' hand] You will rot. Genesis: I see...perfect monster, indeed. When the war of the beasts bring about the world's end The goddess decends from the sky Wings of light and dark spread afar She guides us to bliss ...her gift everlasting. Zack: No, stop! [outside the reactor monsters attack Cloud and Tifa. Zack defeats the monsters, then walks to Tifa who is caring for Cloud who is lying on the ground] Tifa: He tried to protect me... Zack: I know. Tifa, stay close to me. [Tifa helps Cloud up and they walk to town] Zack: Where did Sephiroth go? Tifa: Something the matter? Zack: Sorry, I can't tell you. Tifa: I'm not surprised. I'll ask around town about Sephiroth. Zack: Thanks, Tifa. [Shows Zack and Cloud inside the inn, Zack taken Cloud to the inn to lay down and rest] Zack: Tifa's safe, don't worry. Cloud: If only I were SOLDIER... Zack? Zack: SOLDIER is like a den of monsters. Don't go inside. Cloud: What happened? Zack: I don't know, man... I thought I knew, but... [lays back on bed] Ahhhh! By the way, do you know Tifa? Cloud: Sort of... Zack: Talked to her? Cloud: No... Zack: I'm sensing some issues here... shouldn't you do something? [sits up] I'm one to talk... I'm with SOLDIER so...fighting's all I do. Sorting things out is someone else's job. What's going on? Who's the enemy? It makes no difference to me! Cloud: Hey, Zack? You know, I've never see you use that. [talk about the Buster Sword] [flashback] Angeal: Use brings about wear...tear...and rust. And that's a real waste. You're a little more important than my sword. ...But just a little. Zack's Voice: Embrace your dreams. And, whatever happens, protect your SOLDIER honor. [/flashback] Zack: This is a symbol of my dreams and honor. No... it's more... That's right...I had almost forgotten. Thank you, Cloud. Cloud: Huh? Zack: Right! I'm gonna crash. Night! [frlops onto the bed] [After they sleep, the next morning at the entrance of the inn, Tifa rushes in] Tifa: Sephiroth is apparently at Shinra Manor. Zack: That big mansion? Tifa: Yes. Shinra has owned it for a long time. [runs out] [As Zack is walking to the mansion, his phone rings] Aerith: Hell-lllo! Zack: Aerith? Aerith: I finally got through! Zack: Yeah... [looks around to make sure nobody is watching] Uh, listen... Now's not the best time. I'll call you later. Aerith: No, no, you don't have to... Zack: Okay, I'll come visit. Aerith: I'll be here. Zack: I'll see you, I promise. [Zacks heads to the Shinra mansion where he finds Sephiroth reading through lots of books in the basement library] Sephiroth: A life form in a state of suspended animation, excavated from a 2,000 year-old stratum. Professor Gast named this life form Jenova... Date: X/X/XX - Jenova verified as an Ancient... Date X/X/XX - Jenova Project Approved. Mako Reactor 1 authorized for use... My mother's name, Jenova... The Jenova Project... Could this be a coincidence...? Professor Gast... Why didn't you tell me? Why did you die...? Zack: From that day, Sephiroth shut himself inside Shinra Manor... and proceeded to review document after document, like a man possessed. The lights in the basement never went off... And on the seventh day... [Zack runs into the main square of Nibelheim and sees it is caught on fire Sephiroth: I'm coming to get you... [Shows the famous fmv scene of Sephiroth walking into the fire] Zack: How could you...? Sephiroth, how could you...? [Zack runs all the way to the reactor, and when he gets there, Zack finds Tifa laying on the ground] Zack: Sephiroth did this, didn't he? Tifa: I hate you! I hate Shinra, I hate SOLDIER! I hate you all! [Zack runs into the JENOVA chamber. In here, he finds Sephiroth. He is standing in front of JENOVA] Sephiroth: Mother, let's take back the planet together. I...I had an epiphany. Let's go to the promised land... Mother... Zack: Sephiroth! Why did you kill the townspeople? Why did you hurt Tifa? Answer me, Sephiroth! Sephiroth: Mother, they're here again. You should have ruled this planet. You were stronger, smarter. But then they came... Those inferior dullards... They came and took this planet away from you. But don't be sad, Mother. I am with you now... [Small FMV that appears in Advent Children of Jenova] Sephiroth: We meet at least, Mother... [Zack goes behind Sephiroth and holds a sword to his neck] Zack: Sephiroth! Have you completely lost your mind? [Sephiroth thrusts his sword at Zack] Zack: Sephiroth...I trusted you! [The two of them battle and Zack falls down the reactor, where Sephiroth follows then the player has to fight Sephiroth!] Zack: No, you're not--you're not the Sephiroth I once knew! Sephiroth: I am the chosen one. I have been chosen to rule this planet. [One-Winged Angel Music Plays] [Sephiroth sends a violent wave of light at Zack. It follows by another battle between the two and then some cutscenes where the two battle it out. Zack eventually falls out to the main part of the reactor. Sephiroth then turns his back to go to Jenova. Cloud walks into the chamber, grabs Zack's buster sword, and rushes at Sephiroth, who is distracted by his mother. Cloud ends up Stabbing Sephiroth in the back with the giant Buster Sword. Afterwards, Cloud goes back to the main area of the reactor and cradles Tifa in his arms. Sephiroth walks out of Jenova's chamber while he is doing this, with Jenova tucked under his arm] Sephiroth: How dare you...! Zack: Cloud...finish Sephiroth off... [Cloud grabs the Buster Sword] Cloud: Sephiroth! [Cloud attempts to kill Sephiroth but Sephiroth, being the master swordsman that he is, simply throws Cloud off of him back into Jenova's Chamber. Sephiroth follows him in then proceeds to stabbing Cloud in the chest. He takes the sword and lifts Cloud up in the area while impaled with it] Sephiroth: Don't test me. [Cloud grabs onto the sword and lifts Sephiroth up into the air, all while... still impaled] Sephiroth: No...! Impossible! [Cloud gives the sword a hefty swing. The swing throws Sephiroth across the room, where he ends up falling down into the reactor with Jenova's head] [Shows Zack at the front of the reactor, badly injured. Cloud walks out, clutching his wound, where he falls down the steps, near Zack] Zack: Cloud...you did it... [The two lie there and the camera pans out] [The screen goes black and then it shows Hojo. Hojo seems to have Cloud on a stretcher] Hojo: This one here...introgiong, most intriguing! He'll make a fine test subject! [Zack closes his eyes once again, the screen going black] [END OF CHAPTER SCREEN] |
