Basic Profile
There is no question that there is some sort of mysterious aura surrounding this character. Auron is a man who happens to be around at the most crucial of moments. At the beginning of the game, it seems that he knows something that Tidus does not know - this is obvious in the way he talks and the way he addresses "Sin." At the beginning of the game Auron leads Tidus to "Spira" and then suddenly dissappears. Auron does show up later on, though, when Tidus ventures to Luca with Yuna and the party. It is there that Auron reveals some information to Tidus about Sin and the world he is currently in - far away from the Zanarkand that Tidus knows.
Auron is a master at swordsmanship. His attacks a bit slower than the average party member, but when he does get a turn, he is very, very powerful! He can strike down foes usually with one hit. However, he is not very agile, therefor he is not very useful when it comes to flying or, of course, agile enemies. He is a monster tank, though. With lots of HP, he can take quite a bit of damage - just about as much as he can dish out!
Personality
Calm and collective. Auron does not get emotional over anything. He is very rational, usually using his judgement to make the best decisions. He thinks things through before he acts. Generally speaking, Auron is the type of person you would put in the lead of a group of people. This man has his act together and can usually lead the party in the right direction, thus he does give the group advice throughout the entire game and generally they do decide to follow his advice as it really is usually the best method of doing things. Auron is also a very loyal person - he is the type who would never betray his companions.
Possibly Spoiling Information
At first everything about Auron seems like a complete mystery. Why does he show up at the beginning of the game? What is his relationship with Tidus? How does he know about this being known as Sin? And most of all - just who the heck is he?! As the game progresses, it becomes clear.
Auron was a guardian for Yuna's summoner father - Lord Braska - who defeated Sin ten years ago. Not only that but Auron also knew Jecht - Tidus' father - whom also was one of Braska's guardians. No doubt, the three of them became very close on the journey, one can be said they were the best of friends. However, when they reached Yunalesca, Auron learnt of the fate of a summoner and their guardians - the guadian would sacrifice themself to become the final aeon in order to destroy Sin. However, all the while they would end up becoming sin themself and thus the cycle would repeat endlessly. Auron couldn't believe it, especially when Jecht volunteered to become the Final Aeon for Braska. Yes, Auron stood up for what he believed in - one where Jecht and Braska did not sacrifice their lives in order to perform the final summoning. Of course, Auron was struck down by the unsent Lady Yunalesca and ultimately killed. While Braska died and Jecht became Sin - Auron also died, but his soul was stuck in the world, thus, Auron is an unsent.
Auron promised Jecht he would look after his son - Tidus - so Auron traveled Sin to Zanarkand, the world that was just a memory from 1,000 years earlier. Auron brought Tidus to Zanarkand, ultimately fulfilling his promise.
At the end of the game the party is successful at destroying Sin forever and thus Auron was at ease and decided to have Yuna send him.
