Final Fantasy XII takes place in the familar world of Ivalice, a world which was used in both Final Fantasy Tactics games, though the world in XII is most similar to Tactics Advance due to the various races and espers.
The Kingdom of Dalmasca was thrown into a war with the Archades empire. The prince of Dalmasca, whom had just married the Princess Ashe, charged into battle and ended up killed. Soon after the king met a cruel death and rumors flew that Princess Ashe, striken with grief, had taken her own life. Thus, the control of Dalmasca then fell into the hands of the Archades empire.
Somewhere in Rabanastre, the capital of Dalmasca, a young man by the name of Vaan goesabout his buisness. Having lost his parents and his only brother in the war, he now lives as an orphan, spending his days stealing. He dreams of becoming a sky pirate someday, but that dream seems all too far-fetched.
What do both Ashe and Vaan have in common? The fate of the Kingdom Of Dalmasca rests in their hands. Little do they know this, especially Vaan...
