Shatter Heart » Final Fantasy VIII » Squall Leonhart
Name: Squall LeonhartHair Color: Brown Eye Color: Blue Occupation: SeeD Living at: Balamb Garden Weapon: Gunblades Key Traits: Natural Leader, Cold, Hermit, Anti-Social The main hero of Final Fantasy VIII, overly quoted around the internet, because his inner thoughts are very thought provoking. It is argued that Squall has some of the best character development in not only a Final Fantasy game, but any game in general. All of his inner thoughts, as his personality undergoes a dramatic transformation, are on display for the player to view. Squall is a natural born leader, one who can issue commands wisely and head a large group of people, but his personality greatly contridicts this great, heroic trait. Simply, Squall does not like people. Not because he is against society as a whole or anything of the sort, but rather because he is afraid. Squall is afraid that he will be hurt. He will get too close to any given individual, make friends, or perhaps even a lover, and they will end up just abandoning him to be cold and alone, all by himself. Thus, in the military academy of Balamb Garden, all of his peers... and even instructers, regard him as being "anti-social," "Cold," and a "lone wolf." Squall doesn't have any friends, and the closest thing he has to it is his biggest rival, Seifer Almasy. Seifer and Squall don't get along. Seifer always taunts the young hero of this story and Squall tries to ignore it. In fact, the scar that Squall has on his face was given to him by Seifer, while they were fighting together with their gunblades [Seifer being the only other gunblade user in the garden]. At the beginning of the story, Squall is not yet a SeeD, but rather a mere student, trying to become one of the great SeeDs that are sent out on missions around the world. One requirement for SeeD is for a student to pass both a written and field exam, and Squall had not done his field exam, thus, his teacher, Quistis Trepe goes with him to a fiery cave, where Squall obtains the GF, Ifrit. Afterwards, Squall prepares for the real test, a test where SeeD canidates are placed into a real-world combat. The story progresses afterwards, Squall becomes a SeeD, and he meets a young woman, Rinoa Heartilly. The game circles around the two, and their story, as they become closer and closer together, all while they protect the order of the world, and unravel the mysterious story behind the occurances with the Sorceress Edea and exactly who she is and what she wants. |
