Basic Profile
Vivi is a young black mage and one of the first characters you are introduce to in the game. In fact, Vivi is the character you run around the city of Alexandria with at the beginning of the game. In Alexandria, Vivi is hoping to get into the play I want to be your Canary which is being performed by the group from Lindblum, Tantalus. He's very excited by the fact he'll be able to see the play, however, his happy moment is ruined when he finds out that the ticket he is holding is a fake.
Vivi does make it into the play but at this time he is caught by the guards and ends up on the stage, accidently getting himself involved in Tantalus' kidnap of the Princess Garnet. Confused and not knowing what to do, Vivi stays on the ship - even as it crashes - and ends up on an adventure with Zidane and Garnet.
Being a Black Mage, Vivi is quite confused about his orgins. In this game, Black Mages are created from Mist and brought to life in order to be weapons in war. Vivi, knowing this and seeing all the other black mages around him, becomes quite scared. These Black Mages seem like souless beings and look just like him. Was he created the same way as them? Ultimately, Vivi's journey in this game is to find just where he came from.
 
Personality
Vivi is a very shy little guy. He doesn't feel very comfortable around people that he does not know and often speaks in an awkward manner which greater indicates his uneasiness. Even though he is shy, he is quite a determine little fella. He also is very thoughtful - he thinks about the things around him. As well as that, he cares about others, especially the black mages he seems, and hopes that they can live normal lives just as he does.
Possibly Spoiling Information
Black Mages generally live to be about one year of age. After one year of age the Black Mages become weak and eventually "stop." Stopping could be called the equivalent of death because after this time period they are unable to function anymore and therefor have no life running through them. Vivi is a rare exception. During the events of the game the little black mage is nine years of age. This is probably due to the fact that Vivi was a rare prototype black mage.
When Vivi was younger he was taken care of by a member of the Qu tribe. This Qu's name was Quan. Quan took Vivi to his dwelling, however, at one point it seems that Quan passed away, leaving Vivi behind. Vivi then made his way to Treno and eventually Alexandria where the current game events take place.
