Extraction

Ever wonder how to easily extract images in photoshop? This tutorial will show you how!

The tutorial

1. Open up an image of your choice in photoshop. I chose the image below.

2. Go to filter > extract.

3. Select the edge highlighter tool on the left sidebar at the top.

4. On the right side you should see tool options. I set mine to brush size: 11, Highlight: Green, and Fill: Blue.

5. Now when you are ready trace along the part of the photo you want to cut out. It does not have to be even and it is fine if you highlight some wrong spots.

6. Select the Fill Tool and fill the highlighted area. When you are done, click OK. The image won't be perfect, as you can see below.

7. Select the erase tool and set the opacity to 50 and Flow to 20%. Make the brush sizes mall. Mine was set to 5. Round brush. You'll want to use this tool to remove any of the unwanted background that is left from the image. Just zoom in and start using the tool.

8. Now you are ready to do what you want with it! I placed a background behind the extracted image. I then duplicated the extracted image, went to filter > blur > gaussian blur set the blur to 10, and then set the blending mode on the top image to overlay and got this below.
